What is the JIS standard?

In some items of work, some partners require us to use materials that meet JIS standards, especially Japanese counterparts. We will provide you with some information about JIS standards.

1. What is the JIS standard?
JIS stands for Japan Industrial Standard.
This is a set of specific standards and guidelines used in Japan's industrial activities. The standardization process was established by the Japan Industrial Standards Board and promulgated through the Japan Standards Federation.

2. Origin of JIS standards
During the Meiji Restoration, Japanese private firms had to set their own standards for their own products, even though the government had some technical standards and documentation at the time. Specifically, but primarily responsive to government trade, such as weapons commodities, ammunition, etc.

3. JIS Development Process:
It was firstly abbreviated as the official standard (called the Japanese Engineering Standard (JES) in 1921). During World War II, these standards were reduced and released towards increased production of military supplies for war (such as weapons, weaponry, ammunition, etc.).
After the defeat of World War II in 1945, the Japan Standards Association released the standards set today. The revisions of the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee were promulgated in 1946 and set new standards in Japan (new JES)
In 1949, the Japanese standardization law was enacted, establishing a legal basis for the current Japanese Industrial Standards - JIS.
By 2004, the Japanese standardization law was revised and the JIS seal was changed. As of October 1, 2005, the JIS logo is applied. All products certified by the JIS Standard have previously been certified to use the new certification mark, which is only valid for a period of 3 years from 2005 to 30. / 10/2008. Therefore, JIS certified Japanese products must have a new JIS logo as of October 1, 2008.
